Montorfano: la mulattiera strappata alla roccia

Dominated by an imposing wall, a trail carved in the rock will guide you in a flurry of different emotions like reflections created by the light on the rocks: you will pass through a huge natural ravine and, after winding bends where you will take a breath losing yourself in the landscape, you will arrive at the powder house dug by man into the heart of the solitary mountain.

Route Description

From the car park of Prà Michelaccio di Mergozzo follow the road for Gravellona for about 500m and turn left on a short stretch of a track and then go on the path.

The ascent continues through scree-covered rocks touching the rock walls: be careful while climbing.

Half-way up the track carved into the rock, you enter into a spectacular and enormous natural ravine in the wall, a place of a great beauty that will for sure fascinate you.

Continuing until the end of the path, still going up along the winding bends carved into the rock, you will come to the "polveriera", the powder house, cut into the heart of the mountain, but for a few minutes get lost into the landscape.

For the way back, you can follow the same itinerary or go down along the military road recently restored, that will bring you back to Prà Michelaccio.
